Talamaska (or Adamova Marina) is a Russian artist that I just discovered. I decided to feature her because she combines two of my favorite things in the word: paper-cut illustrations and Alice in Wonderland.
Of course, her work goes beyond Alice, but it was her exploration of symbolism in this beloved book that got my attention and I am very excited that she seems to be working on a continuation (or new series?) of her interpretation of this story.
I have worked with paper-cut illustration in the past, and as such can attest to the level of work art like this requires, but also to the level of satisfaction that can be felt once a piece is completed. Even when your hands are pretty much destroyed in the process.
I can’t wait to see more from this artist! …but in the mean time, excuse me while I go dust off my knife and colored papers ;)
